TREATMENT PROCESS

The basic process supplied by Sand Filtration Inc. is the Media Filter. As with a conventional septic system, sewage is first treated in a septic tank where anaerobic bacteria break down the sewage. Sewage is screened then pumped from the septic tank to the media filter, where it is dosed intermittently under pressure. The media filter is designed so that air is present, allowing aerobic bacteria to further break down the sewage and ensuring that the filter remains clear of solids. From the sand filter, the treated sewage either goes by gravity to a conventional drainfield, or is pumped to a shallow, gravel-less drainfield. The pressure drainfield provides a higher degree of treatment and better distribution to the soil.
